Enhanced Image Quality in Ambient Light, Even for Eyes with Small Pupils

Topcon Introduces NW500 Non-Mydriatic Retinal Camera to the European Market

CAPELLE AAN DEN IJSSEL, NETHERLANDS, OCTOBER, 2023

Topcon Healthcare, a leading provider of medical devices and software solutions for the global eye care community, is pleased to announce that it launched the NW500 to the European market during the 23rd Euretina Congress in Amsterdam on October 5-8, 2023. The NW500 is a new user-friendly, robotic colour fundus camera that provides enhanced image quality in ambient light, even through small pupils.1,2

The NW500 offers innovative slit scan illumination and a rolling shutter mechanism, which helps to overcome one of the known causes of poorly graded images in its ability to effectively image smaller pupils, from 2.00mm or larger.3 A 12-megapixel sensor delivers excellent quality colour fundus images for clear review and analysis.4

The NW500 contributes to a streamlined workflow and enhanced patient experience by offering the ability to acquire retinal images in a lighted setting without the need to dilate patients.1 Utilising bilateral 2-field photography, the NW500 automatically captures four images: disc centred, then macula centred (OU) to improve clinical workflow efficiencies. Stereoscopic photography captures images from two slightly different positions for stereoscopic image viewing to aid in clinical assessment. Peripheral photography can also be accomplished via the nine fixation points.

Touch-screen capability offers rapid, simple capture with just one touch, and fully- automated operation gives clinicians the flexibility to delegate screening. The need to recapture is reduced, even when taking pictures of eyes with small pupils, contributing to the overall efficiency of the fundus photography workflow.

A variety of connectivity options are available to suit the needs of clinical practices and screening businesses.

“With its ease of use, reduced need for dilating all patients, and fast processing speed, the NW500 has certainly contributed to the smoothness of our daily operations while also making for happier technicians and patients. Most importantly, the ability of the NW500 to reliably capture high-quality, true color images, including in eyes with small pupils and media opacities, makes it a valuable tool for optimising patient care,”
said Jacob Cheng Yen Chuan, MD, Director, Retina Services, Eagle Eye Centre, Singapore.
