"Photobiomodulation (LLLT) in Optometry and New Horizons in Posterior Segment Care" Sarah Farrant
This lecture will address the growing evidence for photobiomodulation or Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) In Optometric settings, from the more commonplace use we are seeing for anterior segment conditions and dry eye treatment, to the latest clinical developments citing reduced drusen volume and improved visual acuity in patients with dry AMD treated with photobiomodulation therapy.
Sarah, alongside her optometrist husband, Edward, owns an independent practice, Earlam and Christopher in Somerset, with specialties in ocular pathology, dry eye and myopia management. Sarah graduated from Optometry at Cardiff University, Wales.
Sarah is a leading expert in therapeutics and dry eye management and represents the UK as an Ambassador for the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS). She is a consultant and key opinion leader to numerous ophthalmic companies and regularly writes articles as well as lecturing nationally and internationally. She is the current President of the British Contact Lens Association.

"New Horizons in Posterior Segment Treatment: Photobiomodulation for dry AMD management" Prof. Giuseppe Giannaccare
This lecture will address the growing evidence base for photobiomodulation or Low-level Light Therapy (LLLT) the management of patients with dry AMD. It will explore the mechanism of disease activity, and impact of photobiomodulation, as well as following the design and reported outcomes of recent clinical trials and translation of this research into real-world practice.
Giuseppe is an Ophthalmologist and Full Professor specialising in ocular diseases. He earned his medical degree with honors from Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, Italy, and completed his specialisation and PhD Program in Ophthalmology at the University of Bologna, Italy.
Since 2023, he has been a Full Professor at the University of Cagliari, Italy, where he also acts as Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department and Director of Ophthalmology Residency Program.
With over 260 publications and numerous awards, including the 2018 Italian Ophthalmological Society's Research Award, and he is a Board Member of the Italian Society of Corneal Transplantation and Ocular Surface Diseases and a Fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgery & Visual Sciences.
